Asbestos

Asbestos is one of the most legislated areas of compliance. Specific duties are placed on everyone, from those responsible for running or occupying buildings, to those who remove asbestos from them.

The main theme of these duties is management, especially for those responsible for running or occupying buildings. This management is a long term demonstration of compliance, bearing in mind that it could be anything from 15 to 60 years between exposure to asbestos fibres and illness.

While surveys are a good starting point, that is all they are. From these, risk assessments (material and priority) should come your register, and then your long-term management strategy, be it ‘mark and manage’ or remove.

The information you hold must be kept up to date and made available to anyone who may work or disturb the asbestos containing material (ACM). Regular reviews and condition assessments should therefore form any part of your strategy. Training of all relevant personnel is another key requirement and is the responsibiity of the dutyholder.

We are actively involved in helping our customers manage asbestos, from initial survey to point in time strategic review of the management in place, and to comply with Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 (CAWR). With enforcing authorities treating this as a priority area, shouldn’t you know exactly where you are with your asbestos management?

Services we provide to support you with asbestos include:
  • Strategic level asbestos management reviews
  • Asbestos management surveys (formally known as type 1 and 2 surveys)
  • Material assessments and priority assessment (in combination with asbestos risk assessments)
  • Asbestos management systems
  • Asbestos conditioning assessment
  • Asbestos training for both management and awareness
