A Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) survey reported that 91 % of students and 94% of teachers think it is important to undertake work experience at key stage 4 (age 14-16). We believe this too, and in 2010 hosted 4 work experience students and a student on a summer placement.
All students experienced a range of departments and functions at Elementus and found their time enjoyable and worthwhile.
In addition to our on-going partnership with our local secondary school, The Forest School, we have supported initiatives in other Sussex Schools, including Muntham and Collyers 6th Form College.
We have worked with the West Sussex education business partnership (EBP) to support their initiatives where possible. EBP coordinate businesses with schools and this includes us featuring on an interactive database for students to find work experience opportunities.
Feedback from Best Companies showed that we scored highest in the ‘Giving Something Back’ section. ‘Giving Something Back’ explores how much people think their organisation puts back into society and whether they believe this effort is driven by profit motives. We are proud that our staff recognises this as being important to our business.
In 2010 we continued to raise money for charity through various events and initiatives. Of particular note was our team of runners who completed the London 10K run raising £3353.50 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
In 2010 we continued our ‘Donations Budget’ and have supported colleagues, customers and other contacts with their own initiatives.
