“Our building provides us with optimum working conditions and houses all of our London employees under one roof. I think it is important to stress test your existing processes regularly by exposing them to the market and gain the benefit of external expert knowledge.”
Allan Fitzgerald, Senior Premises Manager, Slaughter and May
Since 1992 a trusted partnership has been established between Slaughter and May and Elementus. At that time Slaughter and May wanted reassurance that their contractors were delivering on workplace legal compliance. A tailored solution to audit their buildings environments was developed by Elementus and the support began with independent workplace environmental assessments (air quality, comfort conditions and water quality) across several of their London buildings. The partnership continued when they opened their new head office in 2002 and Elementus carried out further legionella risk assessments and set up a site-specific water management system to help them demonstrate compliance in water management.
In 2008 Slaughter and May progressed the working relationship and instructed Elementus to carry out a fire risk assessment.
Allan Fitzgerald stated, “ We have used Elementus ever since we took occupation of One Bunhill Row, for our environmental and water monitoring, and have always received excellent service and advice. Therefore it seemed a logical step to ask them to undertake the fire risk assessment review. A team was appointed and the review process began in November 2008”.
A team was assigned a team to review this process at the end of 2008, demonstrating a proactive approach to compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and fulfilling employer’s responsibility. Working together, Elementus and Slaughter and May produced an in depth tailored fire safety management system. Allan commented “Working very closely with my Engineering Manager and the firm’s Health and Safety Advisor, Elementus produced a comprehensive assessment with a number of recommendations which, were tabled using the Assurity on-line system exclusive to Elementus, and an extremely detailed and simple to follow fire management system”.
Elementus have developed a strong relationship with the Health and Safety and Property Management teams at Slaughter and May over the years. This has been achieved by understanding the customers’ needs, and personalising existing systems to meet them. The relationship has been built during regular face-to-face meetings involving the whole team, who were willing to listen to advice and were happy to discuss possible solutions.
Slaughter and May understand their responsibilities and the need to comply with legislation. They work closely with Elementus and see us as a vital part of their team.
